A hybrid piezoelectric turnstile that converts pedestrian footfall into usable electricity for urban infrastructure.
EnerGATE is a hybrid energy-harvesting turnstile designed to capture and convert pedestrian movement into renewable power. The system integrates piezoelectric disks with a mechanical generator so everyday metro or campus crossings become a micro-generation event.
The evaluation uses an Ansys digital twin with 30 days of metro-station traffic data, representing 115,293 interactions. The paper reports 24,083 mAh of electrical charge and 87.5% efficiency under those modelled conditions. This is a simulation result, not a month of operation at an installed station.
The useful design question is the scale of the load: repeated small inputs may suit low-power devices, but mAh is charge, not a wattage or an energy figure. The paper connects the turnstile study with Indian application 202441036475 for a piezoelectric generating mechanism.
Follow a crossing through the system.
A crossing turns the arm. Gears transfer this rotation to the energy-harvesting mechanism.
